On Notes and Errata, On Detail and Depth of field

The manipulation of depth of field becomes a method for achieving the obsessive nature of IJ's use of the 'note'. As a scene unfolds, the focus will change from the narrative flow to a detail, for example the tar and nicotine content on the label of a discarded packet of Belgian cigarettes et cetera.
